SRH’s Batting Firepower Too Much for RCB in High-Scoring Clash
In a thrilling encounter at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Sunrisers Hyderabad sent a strong message to the rest of the league with a commanding 55-run victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Match 67 of IPL 2026. Despite the loss, RCB remains atop the points table, securing Qualifier 1 thanks to their net run rate advantage.
SRH’s Top Order Sets the Stage
Winning the toss, SRH opted to bat first on what appeared to be a batting-friendly surface. The decision paid off early as Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma provided a brisk start, putting on 45 runs for the opening wicket. Head contributed 26 before falling, but Abhishek continued his aggressive intent, scoring 56 and ensuring the momentum didn’t dip.
The real acceleration came in the middle overs. Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen forged a devastating 113-run partnership, plundering the RCB bowlers at a rate exceeding 14 runs per over. Klaasen reached his fifty in just 23 balls, showcasing his trademark power and precision. Their assault laid the foundation for a formidable total, only broken when Krunal Pandya dismissed Klaasen.
RCB’s Chase Falls Short Despite Early Hopes
In reply, RCB began with intent. Venkatesh Iyer exploded with 44 off just 19 deliveries, forming a 60-run opening stand with Virat Kohli. However, Iyer’s dismissal by Eshan Malinga marked a turning point. Kohli followed soon after, scoring only 15, and the scoring rate began to stall.
Devdutt Padikkal offered a brief resurgence with 21 off 14, but the real resistance came from captain Rajat Patidar and Krunal Pandya. Their 84-run partnership kept RCB’s hopes alive, with Patidar scoring a composed 56. Pandya remained unbeaten on 41, supported by a quick 15 off 7 from Tim David, but the target proved too steep.
Patidar Applauds SRH’s Dominance
Despite the defeat, Rajat Patidar was full of praise for SRH’s batters. “Too many runs on the board,” he admitted. “Obviously, I think their top five batsmen played really well, and they purely dominated in the first innings.”
He acknowledged the effectiveness of SRH’s bowling strategy. “Their strength is slow bouncers and yorkers, and they executed them pretty well. When you start bowling slow bouncers into the wicket, it’s really tough for the batsman to score,” he added, noting that while the pitch wasn’t significantly slowing down, the execution made all the difference.
Patidar reaffirmed RCB’s goal: “The top priority was to finish on top, and we’ve done that.” While disappointed with the result, he recognized that chasing 255 on that surface was always going to be a tall order, especially against a well-drilled bowling unit.
What This Means for the Playoffs
The result confirms both teams’ qualification for the playoffs. SRH’s emphatic win boosts their confidence heading into the business end of the season, while RCB, despite the loss, secures the crucial advantage of playing Qualifier 1 at home.
As the tournament heads into its final stages, Sunrisers Hyderabad have shown they can dominate even the league leaders. With explosive batting and disciplined bowling, they’ve firmly established themselves as serious title contenders.
