The India National Cricket Team has announced its ODI and Test squads for the upcoming series against Afghanistan, starting from June 6th. Among the surprising inclusions is Gurnoor Brar, a young pacer from Punjab, who has earned his maiden call-up to the Men in Blue in both Test and ODI teams.

Early Life and Career

Gurnoor Brar hails from the Sri Muktsar Sahib district in Punjab. Standing at 6’5 inches, he is a hit-the-deck bowler who generates good bounce from the wicket. The 25-year-old pacer made his first-class debut in 2022 and his IPL debut with the Punjab Kings in 2023. However, it was the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season that proved to be his breakthrough year, as he took 26 wickets in 7 matches.

Brar also led the wicket-takers’ chart in the 2024 Sher-E-Punjab T20, taking 22 wickets in 11 matches with an average of 14 and an economy rate of 7.33. His impressive performances caught the attention of the Gujarat Titans, who paid INR 1.30 crore for him during the 2025 IPL auction.

Call-up to the India National Cricket Team

Brar’s selection to the India National Cricket Team is a testament to his hard work and dedication. He has made 18 first-class appearances and is a mainstay for Punjab. His height and ability to produce speed have impressed the selectors, and he is now a regular in India A team, having taken 12 wickets in three matches.
