Gaikwad’s Post-Match Reflections

Speaking after the defeat, Ruturaj Gaikwad acknowledged the difficulty of the pitch and the quality of the opposition. ‘I felt there was a bit of something for the fast bowlers,’ the skipper noted. ‘When we batted, we found it difficult to hit off the hard lengths, and their bowlers executed their plans really well. We were aiming for 160 or 170, and even though we got 180, credit goes to them for chasing it down with such extraordinary shots.’

Addressing the bowling strategy against the explosive Marsh, Gaikwad explained, ‘We were looking at hitting hard lengths—proper Test match lengths—because the ball was nibbling around. However, Marsh is a player who thrives on the short ball, and he managed to capitalize on our plans.’

The loss has undoubtedly created a sense of urgency within the CSK camp. With their net run rate impacted and only two matches remaining in the league stage, the path to the playoffs has narrowed.
