Shreyas Iyer Achieves Milestone in IPL

Shreyas Iyer has marked another record in the ongoing TATA Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL) as he led the Punjab Kings (PBKS) against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 61st match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.

It was Shreyas Iyer’s 100th match in the IPL as a captain. At the toss, when both captains walked into the middle, Iyer was informed about the record. The PBKS skipper stated that he had no clue that it was going to be his 100th match in the league as a captain.

Iyer’s Reaction to the Milestone

“I’m not going by the stats; we’re clearly seeing how the games pan out. If we bat and bowl well, the toss doesn’t matter. I seriously had no clue that this was my 100th game as a captain, but it feels great. It feels like a great opportunity for me to win my 100th game (as captain),” Shreyas Iyer said.

Winning the toss, Iyer chose to bowl first at their home ground against RCB. Shreyas Iyer, now leading the Punjab Kings, was the captain of the Delhi Capitals and the Kolkata Knight Riders. He is now amongst the most celebrated leaders in the league, as Iyer has guided Kolkata to the 2024 IPL trophy and helped Delhi and Punjab into the finals as the skipper.

Iyer’s Captaincy Record

In 99 matches, Iyer has won 54 and lost 40 games. Under his leadership, PBKS has started their IPL 2026 campaign on a good note, winning back-to-back seven matches. At one point in the league, they were at the top of the points table as the only undefeated team. But they are now on a 5-match losing streak.

Because of 5 consecutive defeats, they have slipped to fourth from the number one spot in the rankings. At any cost, Punjab will aim to win today to break the deadlock, defeating a strong Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
