Bangladesh Ready to Take on Australia in Test Series
Bangladesh’s Test team is in excellent form right now. Even the players themselves believe this is the best Test side the country has had in terms of consistency and confidence. But a massive challenge now waits ahead – playing in Australia.
Since the two-match series in Australia is part of the ICC World Test Championship, the Australians are taking Bangladesh very seriously. Some Australian players have skipped The Hundred, while others have taken breaks from limited-overs cricket just to focus fully on the Test series against Bangladesh.
Australian Conditions a Challenge
Australian conditions are always tough and unfamiliar for Bangladesh. Still, chief selector Habibul Bashar Sumon believes things will become easier if the team can arrive early and prepare properly.
He said, “It would be very good if we can go there a bit earlier. That will help us adjust to the conditions better. And honestly, every Test team is strong now. Pakistan are also a very good Test side. Except for maybe the teams near the bottom of the rankings, the teams within the top six or seven are all very competitive. Playing Test cricket against any of them is a huge challenge.”
No Need for Special Preparations
Of course, Australia remain one of the toughest teams in world cricket, especially at home. But Bashar feels Bangladesh do not need to do anything extraordinary to compete there. “Australia are probably the number one team right now. Playing against them in their own conditions is always more challenging. But it’s not like we’ve never played Australia before, or never faced these bowlers or this kind of opposition. We don’t need to do anything special. If we can simply play our best cricket, I believe we can challenge Australia.”
Bangladesh will be looking to use this series as an opportunity to test their skills against one of the best teams in the world. With proper preparation and a bit of confidence, they might just be able to pull off an upset.
